So drinking out here is a heck of a lot different to drinking back home. Most of us finish work around 9.30 onwards so by the time we get the bus home its gone 10. Then it's a rush to get ready and try and have some pre drinks before we get in to taxis around 11.30 and head out to a club where we have just two hours to drink until it closes! None of this 24 hour drinking I'm used to back in England, last orders at the bar are at 1.30 then they kick you out at 2. Plus the measures out here seem to be a lot stronger.
Sunday a bunch of us went to House of Blues at Downtown Disney. The place is huge and from what I can remember it was a really fun night but I only had a couple of drinks and it felt like I had double what I'm used to. The next day at work wasn't fun! I wasn't in until 1.15 but I spent the first two hours of my shift feeling like utter crap. Luckily I got Kidcot for a little while so I could sit down but I wasn't that talkative with the kids as I wanted to go be sick! So it's safe to say I'm not gonna drink that much on a work night again!
Monday was my first experience of Happy Mondays. Every Monday all the girls from each country and all the guys from each country get together for drinks, then go out and meet either the guys or girls from another country. The UKs call it Lads and Lasses and during our first one they were initiating some girls from earlier arrival groups. The tasks they had to do were hilarious and the whole night was really fun. With everyone working different schedules and us Merchies being a small group it was nice to meet more of the UKers. That evening we were meeting the Italian lads but I gave this a miss as I wasn't feeling good from House of Blues the night before! It sounds like it was a really interesting night though.
Tuesday and Wednesday are my regular days off so I just chilled and sunbathed and Natalie and I had a wonder around the studios and watched The Little Mermaid show for the second time as it's our favorite. We sit there singing and dancing we love it so much. In the evening we met up with some of the newbies by the pool who are all really nice. Crazy to think we've been here 3 weeks and there's a new arrival group! Thursday we had to be up crazy early for a 6am bus to get our social security number and in the evening we met up with a few more of the newbies.
Friday after work I was gonna make my way to the Polynesian Resort to join Kerry and the newbies watching Wishes from the beach but I wouldn't make it in time so instead I joined Claire and Becky to go see Ted. In the end there was like 8 of us and me and Claire had to save a whole row of seats which got kinda awkward as people came in and gave us dirty looks when we had strategically placed handbags over all the seats. Was such a hilarious film though I loved it.

Afterwork Trips and the trouble with ECVs
So on Thursday Kerry and I both finished at 4.45 so we changed and headed straight for a browse around the Boardwalk Resort which is right next to the International Gateway entrance at Epcot. We went to the Swan and Dolphin hotel which is where Kerry worked on the college program before and we said hi to her old colleagues who were lovely. We then met Kim and Mike and got food at the ESPN restaurant before deciding to get the boat to Hollywood Studios to meet Natalie. We went on Tower of Terror and saw Fantasmic. I wish I finished early so i could have more evenings like that but unfortunately us newbies get stuck working till close until we have more seniority.

After work Friday Kerry and I headed to Downtown Disney with a load of Merch people hoping to see Ted, however all the showings were sold out and we ended up seeing the new Spiderman film instead, I'm glad we did because it was soooo amazing I loved it, I wish we had seen it in 3D. On Saturday Kerry and I headed to the cinema again to see Ted and met Natalie, Laura and Hannah there. The damn film was sold out again though so we saw Magic Mike. Everyone told us it was rubbish but its about male strippers so i didn't expect any fantastic storyline and I actually really enjoyed it. The main girl could not act and some of it was so bad it was funny but watching Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer strip is good enough for me!
Work has been going well and I'm getting the hang of it now. I still have to ring people or find them to ask questions though. Its good when it's busy in the shops as time goes faster and I like it when you have the chance to talk to guests about their vacations. Answering questions about England can also be hilarious at times. I've also had bad luck with ECVs recently. I was headed to Cart when right infront of me a man crashed down off the kerb and the whole thing went over sideways and he fell out. I was like oh my god what do I do!! So many people came over and helped and some custodial cast where there too who offered first aid. Then when I was on cart again i got chatting to a family for ages and this guest went to get something out of the basket of her ECV and the damn thing sped off and was stuck on and she couldn't stop it! It was heading right for the wall behind the cart so I just grabbed a hold of the back and pulled as I ran with it trying to stop it! So me and ECVs do not mix at the moment!

Hollywood Studios and the 4th July
So on the 3rd of July Hannah and I got up early to get to Hollywood Studios for opening so we could get back and chill in the afternoon before the Magic Kingdom fireworks. We went straight on Tower of Terror which I love but every time I go on it I crap myself at the top and want to get off! It's that wait for the drop that's horrible. We also did Rock'n'Rollercoaster which is great fun and then Star Tours which is a simulator and they have revamped it so now there's new ride sequences and video. We also went on the Great Movie Ride which is cheesy but I love it!

In the evening we headed to Magic Kingdom as they have their 4th July fireworks. As we headed out there was a massive storm brewing and we sheltered in the shops on MainStreet USA with some tasty treats whilst we waited. They pushed the fireworks back by an hour and quite a few people left which was good as it was soo crowded. It was well worth the wait though as the fireworks were amazing.

I was lucky to be off on the 4th so I started my day sunbathing. In the afternoon I went with Cherry to visit her friend who lives here and did the CRP 8 years ago! We headed to her friends place in Davenport and on the way there was a massive thunderstorm and the worst rain we couldn't see where we were driving I would have hated to drive in it. We had a fun afternoon celebrating the 4th with drinks and good food. We had a chocolate fountain which was amazing and the tastiest brownie/oreo dessert cake thing. Then we all headed to Epcot for their fireworks. We stopped by Spaceship Earth first and jumped the queue by going in the VIP back entrance which was good fun! Then we had Margaritas from Mexico which were yummy but so strong. We headed to the UK pavillion to watch the fireworks and ended up seeing them from the Rose and Crown Pub and we had such a good view. After the normal Illuminations:Reflections of Earth they had a 4th July finale and they were incredible! There was so much going on, they projected presidents onto the ball in the lagoon, had JFKs speech and it was absolutely amazing and the end was soooo intense the noise was like nothing I've heard before. I'm soo glad we got to watch them it was such a great 4th July and it was really nice of Cherrys friend to take us.

Finishing my Training
So Friday and Saturday I did more training, learning how to open and close a shop. There was more e-learning to do and then I served some real guests with my trainers help at the register. Was kinda daunting at first making sure I did everything right but was good fun. Sunday was my last training shift and then I had to take a test on the computer which I passed! I got a few questions wrong but when my trainer looked at them they were badly worded ones and some of them I was actually right on but the test is so old! So after that I was put into rotation and I got my assignment from CDS. I was in the Tea store and oh my god the number of questions people ask about tea!! Whilst the training we get is really good there's loads of stuff guests ask that you just have no clue about so I kept going to the next shop to ask whoever was in there! I also had to do a package pickup which is where a guest has their shopping sent to their resort and it took me forever to do plus I forgot to tell them where to collect it! woops! But most people that ask for it know how it works so I'm sure it was fine! I also had a lady buy a teapot and I was trying to wrap it for her and it was awful! After ages she was like 'don't you have a box?' and I was like Oh shit yea we do I just forgot! She ended up helping me wrap it and I was like sorry it's my first shift! I also didn't wrap up a mug properly for a package pick up and it smashed out the back, but it was fine because we just got another one and now I go over the top wrapping everything up to make sure it doesn't break!
Monday was my first proper shift and I ended up on Kidcot all day! I just kept getting assigned it after breaks and stuff. It was quite fun but in the evening I got hit big time with the tour groups. This sort of time there's loads of them from Brazil all wearing matching t-shirts and you see them everywhere! They come into Kidcot and each one usually has about 5 Duffys each so it can get pretty insane, especially when they have a passport they want a comment in too. I was exhausted by the end of my shift at 9.30! When I got home everyone was chilling by the pool so we had a late night dip which was soo needed.

The Sunday after Traditions Kerry and I were scheduled to meet our trainers at Epcot and get our costume! I don't have a decent pic yet but I will try and put one up soon. It took ages trying on the costumes because the sizing is completely crap, I ended up with a size 6 and a 10 top and a size 10 and 18 skirt?! The costumes have been the same since the park opened in 1982 so they are a little bit worn, think we are getting new costumes in the Fall though and they look really nice so I can't wait for that! Then we headed out 'onstage' and it was quite surreal walking through the park in costume with my name badge on thinking I work here when I've been coming here since I was like 4 years old!! We are allowed to walk to work onstage as you can only walk through one other country in your costume and we can walk through Canada to the UK. There is a bus you can take instead backstage that stops at all the pavillions.
The whole day it didn't stop raining as we had Tropical Storm Debby coming our way so we wore our lovely see through ponchos. Our trainers were really nice and we just did some e-learning on the computers and looked around at the different shops we would be working in. It's really well themed with a Tudor style section, Hampton Court style building and Regency style buildings with a square park and bandstand and even a little maze There's a Sports shop (football stuff, Olympics, Wimbledon), Crown and Crest (UK stuff) Toys (including Beatles stuff), Queens (jewellery including a lovely Diana engagement ring), Tea (Twinning Tea and English chocolate) a cart outside and Kidcot. Kidcot is at the back of the toy store next to where kids meet Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. They can pick up a Duffy Bear and colour him in and get it stamped at every country they visit and we also draw the UK flag (it took me a while to draw it quickly but now I'm a pro when the Brazil tour groups hit and throw 20 at you demanding 'flag!') . Some kids also have passport books that you stamp and write a message in. There's a computer that we clock in on and then we get an assignment and work at one of the shops or do tasking such as stocking and collecting hangers. We rotate throughout the day so we're usually only in one shop for an hour or two until about 7ish then your usually at your position until the park closes at 9. Was quite a lot going on as we were being shown around a lady had slipped in the Sports shop and they had to call an ambulance. You also get used to seeing the cast who are 'friends with the characters' coming in and out of our break room so that was amusing at first!

Which as you can guess is Disney name for merchandise and entertainment as they don't want us to just stand behind the cash register all day we are supposed to chat with the guests and have fun! So we went into a room with loads of cash registers lined up and had some great trainers. Using the registers was quite simple but counting the Disney way is hard! I can do it in theory but as soon as I started serving guests for real I did it the normal way! Basically if the total is $12.22 and the guest pays with a $20 you have to count the change from $12.22 and back up to $20! So your looking to get the the nearest quarter quickly then the dollar. So you would count 3 cents to take you to $12.25 then 3 quarters to $13 then 2 dollar bills to $15 then a $5 bill to $20! So in theory it's quite easy but as soon as I was on a cash register in a shop and busy I couldn't do it but noone does so it's ok! The important thing is that you do everything else right and give them the right change and then if you can count the Disney way thats an added bonus.

We watched a video on Walt Disney and the Florida Project which is touched on in'One Mans Dream' at Hollywood Studios but this video had way more stuff I hadn't seen before and was really interesting. For anyone that actually wants to know the history of Walt Disney World basically Walt bought a load of land in Florida under different names so no one knew what he was doing. The Magic Kingdom park was to be built and help to fund his EPCOT project - Environmental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. This would be a place that people worked and lived and there would be a separate World Showcase representing the different countries and an area showcasing new technologies. However Walt died and so his brother continued the project and built the Magic Kingdom and then made Epcot putting the World Showcase and Future World together. We then took a tour of the park and rode Spaceship Earth, a ride about how technology and communication has evolved, and we went on a boat around the World Showcase lagoon to see the different countries. Kerry and I finished at 12 but everyone else had their training day so we headed home and back to Magic Kingdom with everyone in the evening again to watch Wishes and the Main Street Electrical Parade.

They have really tasty salads, soups and pastries plus a huge range of bagels and toppings and the best iced green tea (free refills) It's so close to us (literally behind my building) but takes ages to walk to.
Thursday me, Natalie and Paulina headed to Animal Kingdom as we really wanted to go to a park. We watched the Lion King and Finding Nemo which were amazing, Finding Nemo had us in tears, think it was the whole loosing his son thing and us missing our families!! We had a pic with Minnie and they had loads of street entertainment including a Bhangra DJ and dancers so me and Paulina dance with them! Went on Kilamanjaro Safaris and saw the parade so had a really good day.

Lots of boring meetings and Traditions!
The first two days here we had loads of housing meetings where we just went over all our paperwork and everything you can and can't do. Housing had a breakfast event where you could meet Mickey and Minnie in their PJs and get free pancakes and french toast before one of our meetings so we took advantage of the free breakfast, as did pretty much everyone else here the queue was so long! There was a DJ and everything which was kinda random at 10am, felt like it should have been the middle of the night!
We got our housing IDs and I will not be posting a pic as I look awful. The humidity and my hair do not mix. In the evening some of us girls from our arrival group went for dinner at Downtown Disney. Had a 2 hour wait for a table but we ate at Rainforest Cafe which I love. Watched some of the entertainment whilst we waited and their was some guy DJing who thought he was so cool it was hilarious to watch. Then some band played and this weird old guy wearing some vivid green sparkly shorts started dancing by himself and many parents took their kids off the dancefloor away from him it was so amusing.
Saturday was an exciting day as it was our first proper training day and we had Traditions!! This is what every single Disney employee does and you learn all about Walt Disney and the companies values. We had a super early start - 6.20am bus! But it was definitly worth it. It takes place at Disney University and the two cast members who presented it were great. It was cheesy but it was really fun and they had some really great stories about their time with the company. They started saying we were going to study textbooks and learn about the parks, then were like we could visit the Magic Kingdom instead if you want?! So we went backstage at Magic Kingdom which was so much fun. We went underneath the park into the utilidors and then up onstage to Main Street USA. We attracted a few stares as there was so many of us all in business attire, not really what you'd wear to a theme park! We couldn't take pictures backstage but we had lunch in the cast canteen and saw Belle and Snow White having lunch together! So surreal seeing them in their normal clothes but full hair and make up!
We also had a visit from the boss, Mickey and then we were welcomed into the Disney family with our name badges! So exciting as I've wanted one of these for so long! We also got given our Maingate Passes which give us access to the parks so of course after traditions we rushed home to change and headed straight for Magic Kingdom! Me, Kerry, Mars, Hannah, Eloina (German) and Laura (Canadian) headed straight for Space Mountain with a quick stop for a picture infront of the castle! In the evening we watched The Magic, The Memories and You where they do an amazing projection show on the castle and then it was time for Wishes! Such an amazing firework show and a fantastic end to the day

Lots of blog posts coming...
First Few Days
I've now been here almost 3 weeks and have had hardly any time to update
my blog, time has flown by!
Last time I updated I was still at Pop
Century. Luckily I managed to avoid the luggage guys and spent my day
sunbathing.
The hotel was really nicely themed but still a lot of money for what
you get. There was no buffet breakfast or anything, just a massive food
court for all your meals. Was nice to stay at a Disney hotel though and
housekeeping make animals out of the towels and flannels!
Was kinda strange being by myself but I had fun! Took a stroll to the new Art of Animation Resort across the bridge and it looks incredible.
On Tuesday I packed up all my crap and got ready to lug it around again, I really wish I could pack light. Kerry from my arrival group picked me up as she was staying with a family friend which was great as it was nice to check in to housing with someone and not be by myself. We went to Vista Way which is where all the people on the college program live and we got given a welcome pack and our room key. We both got Commons which is where most of the CRPs live, and I got building 28. Otherwise known as the Ghetto because it is so far from the bus stop/front desk/pool/security. It's only about a 6 min walk but it kinda sucks doing it everyday, especially in the rain. You can't just run for the bus at the last minute. I didn't have a roomate for a week, I have no idea why noone moved in when I did but it was nice having a room and bathroom and large closet all to myself! After about a week housing moved my friend Marsilidh in with me as she'd been put in another complex away from us all which sucked. So now it's great cuz I have a roomate I get on with really well and I don't have to worry about who was gonna move in.
After we found our apartments we met up with Natalie from our arrival group and got the bus to Walmart. So glad I came out early as we had to do two Walmart trips to get everything we needed. Trying to board a coach with comforter sets, hangers, hairdryer, pillows and food was just ridiculous I'm really gonna miss my car! Was hilarious walking round and taking pictures of all the crap they sell though. So much junk food its so hard to find healthy stuff to eat that's not expensive. We also spent ages down the laundry aisle cuz we couldn't work out what tablets we needed or fabric softener and they all smelled so bad. We just have the toploading washing machines and I've no idea how they work.
